During the week you do all the right things to encourage a green lifestyle. You diligently separate your garbage, recycle what you can, add to a backyard composter, use energy saving lightbulbs and use a programmable thermostat. Then, the weekend comes and off you go to your lakeside cabin and all of this green thinking goes out the window. Out come the paper plates, you crank up the electric heat, BBQ twice a day and throw all your recyclables into the garbage.

Alicante is located on Spain’s eastern coast, about halfway down the Costa Blanca to the south of Valencia and Benidorm. Alicante is one of Spain’s oldest cities, tracing its history back to the Romans more than 2,000 years ago. Its original name ”Lucentum” translates as ”City of Light”. Alicante’s location is a culmination of various stretches of nature coming together, in an area in front of the sea. Alicante is protected by many hills, which add to its defense value. This is why the first human settlers to the area chose it. Alicante has many attractions, it has stunning beaches, great weather, well-priced real estate property, cheap flights and nice to book hotels and also a great nightlife if you can handle the late hours. It is easily accessible by a cable car up through the mountain from Jovellanas Avenue. Alicante has a decent number of shopping areas, and you can easily spend all day long walking the city center shops or you can visit the popular Street Markets where you will find just about everything, antiques, fresh fruit and vegetable produce of their particular region, virtual florist and plant garden centers, etc.
